A Productive Summer

Definitely one of the better summers since I have been off to college. In the beginning it seemed as if this summer was going to be a blowoff. Good thing I prevented that from happening. I'm interning at an advertising agency downtown. Kind of funny to know that I'm actually focused in on a career and that I'm working towards it. The best part is that this job is challenging. When people think of internship, I'm sure they assume that it is just a load of bitch work. Absolutely not the case here. Rather than getting people coffee and filing papers, I'm doing hands more hands on work on big projects and participating in meetings with clients and among the other people at this agency. Basically it is my job to do what I am asked and to be a sponge. There is still a lot for me to learn here. Most importantly, I have come to understand that the advertising industry is very complex. Not just something anyone can do. Creativity and being able to think creatively are not things that people can learn how to do in a book. The way I look at it is that a person may be able to but together a brilliant ad campaign today. What can they do tomorrow? What I really want to prepare for is the future. By future I don't mean saving money and retiring early. I want to be able to come up with fresh ideas 15 years from now, when I am not considered to be young anymore. Rather than being a person who is satisfied with where they are at, I plan on constantly adapting to the changes of the world. Because if people don't adapt to the change, life will indeed, pass them by. Well I think thats all for today. Good start for a first blog. There is much much more to come.
